The visit to the Biennale of Art in Venice

Last Saturday I went to Venice to visit the Biennale. Venice, the city of serenity, peacefulness and positivity... it's like leaving all the troubles behind a closed door and taking a breath... I spent six hours visiting the whole exhibition and the artworks that most impressed me have been "On translation" in the Spain Pavillon and "In case I never see you again" in the Serbia & Montenegro Pavillon. In general, considering the Biennale as a whole, the key element to look at in contemporary art, IMHO, is not the "Beauty" of every single artwork but the capacity of the author to communicate something using different media: the beauty has to be found in the message and in the feeling expressed by the artist and perceived by the visitor. The artwork "is" as it establishes a communication, of any kind. And this is the message given by "The Europa Influence" in the Romanian Pavillon. An empty pavillon. But" it is not possible to not communicate". A great experience for me, beyond polemics. The only weaknesses are the presence of some very long videos and no translation available beside the audio messages in English included in many artworks... This last point doesn't come from a personal problem but it is just a reflection, being aware of the average knowledge of foreign languages, including English, in Italy. After the Biennale, the rain and the rainbow. And a run to catch the bus to Dolo to meet a friend of mine. Just the time for a "spritz e quatro ciacoe" before coming back to Milan with the last train leaving from Padova...
